Obstetric Care
Obstetrics and Gynecology of Atlanta offers complete obstetric care including prenatal, delivery and post-partum care. We encourage our patients to be involved in the labor and delivery process.
We have an OB coordinator on staff who will spend time with you on your first obstetrical visit. She will review your health history as well as basic procedures you can expect throughout your pregnancy. We also have a financial counselor on staff who will help to coordinate your benefits with your insurance company. She will answer any financial questions you may have throughout your pregnancy.
Our nurse-midwifery program started in 1997 and is a popular option with our patients. We believe that childbirth is both a normal and life-affirming event for women, and we support the role of the midwife in facilitating this. Nurse-midwives dedicate their practice to the care of women during pregnancy, childbirth, and family planning. The certified nurse-midwife (CNM) is a registered nurse who, having completed a post-graduate course in midwifery, has extended her role to include the management of antepartal, intrapartal, postpartal and interconceptual care of women and their newborns. Our midwives are trained professionals who maintain their skills and knowledge in keeping with national requirements.
The physicians and nurse midwives work together in a collaborative fashion to provide you with a safe, competent and positive prenatal and birth experience. You can make your choice between a nurse-midwife or a physician for your prenatal care and delivery, unless special circumstances apply.
We typically schedule a confirmation of pregnancy visit around 8 weeks. Once we have established a viable pregnancy you will have your first obstetrical visit around 12 weeks of gestation. Please call our office to schedule your “confirmation of pregnancy” appointment during the time that you think you will be approximately 8-10 weeks pregnant (gestational weeks are counted beginning with the first day of your last menstrual period).
In addition to management of the normal prenatal course, we also specialize in the following obstetrical services:
Genetic counseling as indicated
RhoGAM for the Rh negative woman in order to protect her fertility
Versions to turn breech babies
Management of high risk pregnancies including: pregnancies complicated by hypertension, diabetes, thyroid disease, and multiples (twins, triplets…)
Childbirth Education
Disability Policy for Pregnancy
Cord Blood Collection
We offer cord blood collection through CBR (we charge $150 for collection).
